About Nha Hat Chuong Vang

Nha Hat Chuong Vang, or Golden Bell Theatre, is a heritage building in the Old Quarters of Hanoi. It is located on Hang Bac Street (Silver Street), one of the oldest streets in Hanoi, and was where silversmiths used to settle when they moved into Hanoi. Today Hang Bac is one of the many streets in the Old Quarters given over to selling cheap counterfeit branded t-shirts, watches and the like.

A traditional Vietnamese theatre, Nha Hat Chuong Vang has the history of the Vietnamese revolution closely interwoven into its history. During the revolution it served as the headquarters of the Hanoi Guards. In 1947, freedom fighters pledged their allegiance to the revolution from its steps.

Today, the Golden Bell Theatre is only one of the reminders of Hanoi's heritage, often overlooked by hurried tourists seeking out the latest souvenirs on Hanoi's busy streets. By taking one's eyes away from the immediate street crowds, visitors can catch a sight of this important landmark to Hanoi's history.

Getting there

Nha Hat Chuong Vang is located at the junction of Hang Bac and Ta Hien Streets, in the Old Quarters. From the north bank of the Ho Hoan Kiem, take Dinh Liet Street until you reach Hang Bac. The Golden Bell Theatre is on your right.
