About Old East Gate

Cua O Quan Chong, or the Old East Gate, is the only city gate that remains from the time when Hanoi was a mediaval city. There were originally 16 gates providing access into the walled old city. The Old East Gate is located within the Old Quarters of Hanoi, at a narrow street corner between Hang Chieu and Dao Duy Tu Street.

Getting there

Old East Gate is located along Hang Chieu lane. From Ho Hoan Kiem, take Hang Dao Street which is located on the north end of the lake. Continue along Hang Dao until it becomes Hang Ngang Street, and continue walking till it changes name again, to Hang Duong. You will reach the junction with Hang Chieu - be on the look out for roadsigns. There, you turn right and walk a short distance before reaching the Old East Gate in front of you.
